چکیده

There are nine recognized members of the voltage-gated Na+ channel family (VGSC; Nav1.1Nav1.9). Of these, Nav1.1, Nav1.2, Nav1.3 and Nav1.6 are highly (but not exclusively) expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), whereas Nav1.7, Nav1.8 and Nav1.9 demonstrate a more restricted expression pattern in autonomic and sensory neurons of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Nav1.4 and Nav1.5 represent the predominant skeletal muscle and cardiac Na+ channels, respectively. The Nav1.6 subtype is also highly expressed in the peripheral nervous system where it is enriched at the nodes of Ranvier of myelinated axons and contributes to saltatory conduction4,18.

Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels Modulation by Bothutous Schach Scorpion Venom

Buthotus schach is one of the dangers scorpion in Iran that belong to the Buthidae family. Toxins are existing in venom scorpion, modulate the ion channels by blocking or opening the pore of the channel or by altering the voltage gating and useful as pharmacological tools. In the present study, we investigated the effect of venom and its obtained fractions by gel filtrations on electrophysiolog...

Genetic dysmyelination alters the molecular architecture of the nodal region.

We have examined the molecular organization of axons in the spinal cords of myelin-deficient (md) rats, which have profound CNS dysmyelination associated with oligodendrocyte cell death. Although myelin sheaths are rare, most large axons are at least partially surrounded by oligodendrocyte processes. At postnatal day 7 (P7), almost all node-like clusters of voltage-gated Na+ channels and ankyri...

Clustered voltage-gated Na+ channels in Aplysia axons.

Clustering of voltage-gated Na+ channels is critical for the fast saltatory conduction of action potentials in vertebrate myelinated axons. However, the mechanisms responsible for the generation and maintenance of Na+ channel clustering are not well understood. In this study we have raised an antibody against the cloned SCAP-1 voltage-gated Na+ channel of the marine invertebrate Aplysia califor...

A Voltage-Gated Calcium-Selective Channel Encoded by a Sodium Channel-like Gene

BSC1, which was originally identified by its sequence similarity to voltage-gated Na(+) channels, encodes a functional voltage-gated cation channel whose properties differ significantly from Na(+) channels. BSC1 has slower kinetics of activation and inactivation than Na(+) channels, it is more selective for Ba(2+) than for Na(+), it is blocked by Cd(2+), and Na(+) currents through BSC1 are bloc...

Evolution of voltage-gated Na(+) channels.

Voltage-gated Na(+) channels play important functional roles in the generation of electrical excitability in most vertebrate and invertebrate species. These channels are members of a superfamily that includes voltage-gated K(+), voltage-gated Ca(2+) and cyclic-nucleotide-gated channels. There are nine genes encoding voltage-gated Na(+) channels in mammals, with a tenth homologous gene that has ...
